There are two parts to the <span class="caps">TED</span> device we received from Energy, Inc. (see: <a href="http://www.theenergydetective.com/what/overview.html)">http://www.theenergydetective.com/what/overview.html)</a>
<p>There is a terminal unit, which hooks up to the computer via <span class="caps">USB</span>, and there is a sensor unit which is connected to the circuit panel. <br />
The terminal unit connects to the sensor unit over the home electrical wiring, so data collected by the sensor is relayed to the terminal. The Terminal is attached, via <span class="caps">USB</span> to the PC in my home. It writes to a small database.<br />
We have written software, which runs as a Windows Service, to collect data from the local database and send it to the currentWatchers server, where it is aggregated with others’ usage data for comparison.<br />
The whole <span class="caps">TED</span> installation took only a few minutes. Of course, it took quite a bit longer to create all the software to allow curentWatchers to work.<br />
