Welcome to the Current Watchers Site!

There are two parts to the TED device we received from Energy, Inc. (see: http://www.theenergydetective.com/what/overview.html)

There is a terminal unit, which hooks up to the computer via USB, and there is a sensor unit which is connected to the circuit panel.

The terminal unit connects to the sensor unit over the home electrical wiring, so data collected by the sensor is relayed to the terminal. The Terminal is attached, via USB to the PC in my home. It writes to a small database.

We have written software, which runs as a Windows Service, to collect data from the local database and send it to the currentWatchers server, where it is aggregated with others’ usage data for comparison.

The whole TED installation took only a few minutes. Of course, it took quite a bit longer to create all the software to allow curentWatchers to work.

                 Terminal Unit

                 Remote Sensor

    Installation Diagram
